We offer routine eye examinations and additional reviews for patients who require extra care and attention. Our specialised equipment helps with diagnosing and managing various eye conditions. Additional scans are often recommended to patients who have a known condition or a family history of eye disease and want to be monitored as well.
Our Optometrists love to discuss different eye conditions with their patients so that they understand changes to their vision. As a practice, we aim to develop a strong relationship with patients who value continuity of care.
Our children's examinations include assessment of ocular health, visual acuity (how well we can see), prescription and how the eyes work together (binocular vision). At your first visit, we often use eye drops to give the most accurate reading of their prescription. The ideal age for a first eye examination is just before starting school, however, if there are suspected issues, it is important to bring them in much sooner. We recommend bringing children for assessment in the mornings so that they are not tired from a long day at school.
80% of learning comes from our eyes, so it is critical to detect eye conditions as early as possible to prevent life-long issues or impacts on school work. Many eye conditions can also run in the family, so if parents or siblings have known conditions, it is worthwhile screening for them in other family members too. Some of the conditions we are routinely screening for include:
- Long-sightedness (hyperopia)
- Short-sightedness (myopia)
- Astigmatism
- Focusing issues
- Ocular muscle issues
- Strabismus (turned eye)
- Ambylopia (lazy eye)
- Colour Vision Deficiency
- Ocular allergies
Had enough of wearing glasses? Contacts may be right for you.
We can provide soft and complex contact lenses, including Ortho K and RGPs. We walk you through every step in the process, from fitting appointments to teaching you how to use the lenses (including inserting, removing and cleaning). We prefer to have completed a full routine eye examination to have all the information to recommend options suitable to you, so new patients should book for a routine examination to discuss their interest in contact lenses. Current patients are invited to book yearly review appointments to ensure their prescription is up to date.
Myopia (also known as short-sightedness) is a condition where close-range objects are clear, but objects in the distance are blurry. In school-aged children, they often complain of not being able to see the board or end up squinting across the classroom to try and see clearer. Myopic patients not using myopia control often notice their prescription continues to increase every year and require regular updates to their glasses.
Having myopia increases the risk of retinal detachments, cataracts, glaucoma and blindness - the higher the prescription, the higher the risk! Once you have myopia, it is permanent. However significant research supports using particular methods to reduce the rate of progression. These changes tend to stabilise in the late teen years or early 20s for most people, which is the age group that are keen technology users. Excessive screen use and reading with minimal breaks is associated with myopia onset and progression.
We offer the following options:
- Myopia control glasses (DIMS lenses & multifocals)
- Myopia control soft contact lenses (MiSight lenses)
- Myopia control hard contact lenses (Ortho K lenses)
- Myopia control eye drops (Atropine)
Dry Eye Disease is an eye condition that causes discomfort and sometimes even pain when there are not enough natural tears on the front of the eyes. Unfortunately it is chronic and can worsen if left untreated. Symptoms include red eyes, sore or gritty eyes, blurry vision, burning or watery eyes, sensitivity to light or tired eyes. Depending on the type and severity of dry eye, some people may have one symptom whereas others may have many.
Dry eye typically effects women more than men and becomes more noticeable with age, however it can affect all age groups. Symptoms are often worse with contact lens wear, air conditioning, excessive computer use, connective tissue disorders and when taking certain medications (antihistamines, antidepressants, oral contraceptives, etc). Treatments vary depending on which type of dry eye but typically include eye drops and gels, oral supplements, heat therapy, eyelid cleansers, IPL laser therapy and many more.
If you are having similar issues or think you may be experiencing dry eye, we encourage you to book in with our dedicated team to see what treatments are suitable for you.
Our Optometrists are therapeutically qualified to assess, diagnose and manage eye infections and injuries. If you have woken up with a red eye, or feel like you've got a foreign body stuck in there (i.e. metal from grinding), we can help. Please call the practice in a timely manner to receive appropriate care.
Things that are considered emergencies or that may require urgent care include sudden vision loss, decreased vision, eye pain, redness and irritation, flashing lights, new floating spots, intense light sensitivity, pupils that are unequal in size, double vision, one eye that is not moving like the other, new or severe headaches, eye injuries and chemical burns.
We also offer the following speciality services:
- Certified Safety Glasses (prescription and non-prescription)
